| 138. Arvil Ophrey KILPATRICK (Balis Jackson , Jr. , Balis Jackson , Joseph Milton ) was born 17 May 1879 in Macon County, North Carolina. Kilpatrick, the sixth child of Jackson Kilpatrick and Elizabeth Coffey, was born May 17, 1879 in Macon County. He married Lavinia Sawyer October 26, 1899. She was born December 18, 1881 in Swain County. To this union eight children were born. Norman Ophrey Kilpatrick was born February 24, 1901 in Swain County. He attended school in Cherokee County and graduated from Western Carolina Teachers College with a B.S. degree in education. He was principal and teacher of a number of schools in Cherokee County. He was also an ordained Baptist minister. Norman was married to Etna Stalcup on December 24, 1923. To this union were born John Ophrey and Mamilee. Norman died at the age of 41 on May 9, 1942 and was buried in Moss Cemetery at Marble, North Carolina. Frank Edgar Kilpatrick was born January 14, 1903 in Swain County. He attended school in Cherokee County and was a construction worker with the T.V.A. until he retired. He and Beryl Trull were married April 16, 1930. Betty Ruth and Patricia Ann were born to this union. Troy Alvin Kilpatrick was born April 30, 1905 in Swain County. He attended Cherokee County Schools. He retired from Newport News Shipbuilding . He was married to Estelle Carson of Swain County on December 28, 1928. To this union was born Faye, Vencie, and Elizabeth Ann. Elizabeth Kilpatrick was born November 15, 1907 in Macon County. She attended Marble Elementary School, was a graduate of Andrews High School and received a B.S. degree in education from Western Carolina Teachers College (now W.C.U.) After teaching 43 1/2 years in Cherokee County she retired from Andrews Elementary School. Pearl Louellen Kilpatrick was born June 5, 1910 in Cherokee County. She attended Cherokee County Schools. She was married to Wilburn V. Ivester of Canton in June 1940. To this union was born Stanley Dale. Sallie Mae Kilpatrick was born June 12, 1912 in Cherokee County. She attended school at Marble and graduated from Andrews High School. She was a registered nurse. She was married to Edward E. Null of Statesville, North Carolina. To this union were born Janet Lavinia and Ruth. Ralph J. Kilpatrick was born October 24, 1914 in Cherokee County. He attended Cherokee County Schools. He was a construction worker foreman. He and Lucille Raxter were married June 8, 1940. To this union was born Ronald Lee and Daniel Eugene. Ralph died April 2, 1964 and is buried in Moss Cemetery at Marble, North Carolina. Dr. Joel Fred Kilpatrick was born February 20, 1917 in Cherokee County. He graduated from Andrews High School, Lenoir Rhyne College and received his PH.D. in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. At the time of his retirement he was a full professor in the department of Psychology at W.C.U. at Cullowhee. Fred was married to Dr. Retha Hoover of Fort Scott, Kansas. Their children are Joel, Frederick and Jennifer. The Kilpatrick family moved from Hewitts, Swain County, North Carolina in Swain County to Marble, North Carolina in 1910. Arvil died at the age of 41 on April I 16, 1920. Lavinia died October 14, 1957. They are buried in the Moss Cemetery at Marble, North Carolina.
